May Day in Kreuzberg is full of contrasts between political activism and a huge carnivalesque Street Party.  The area completely transforms, drawing tens of thousands of people for demonstrations, impromptu outdoor DJ sets, and dense street raves.

 The neighborhood is the traditional focal point for left-wing and anti-capitalist protests. The massive "Revolutionary 1.-Mai-Demo" typically departs from Oranienplatz and marches through Kreuzberg and Neukölln.
